„Idas y Vueltas“ combines: The „old“ with the “new” world, Europe with Argentina, German music with music of Argentina.

The solo debute CD „Idas y Vueltas“ of German-British tango singer AnnA Franken (Buenos Aires) combines the repertoire of Tango Argentino with German Classical Music (Schumann, Schubert and Weill).
„Die Winterreise“, „Dichterliebe“ and „The Three Penny Opera“ are just three of the works which were transformed into 21st century tangos.
While the lyrics and melodies have stayed almost untouched it is the accopaniment that has undergone major transformations. Written for a “cuarteto típico”, a typical tango quartet, they now sound like modern tango. Like the “new” tango that is being played nowadays in Buenos Aires: wild, raw while at the same time romantic and longing. It is eclectic and ambivalent just like Buenos Aires itself.
Passionate poetry, exciting rhythms and melancolic melodies lead the way on this acoustic journey across the atlantic ocean and through time.
AnnA Franken tells stories of longing, nostalgia, homesickness, of traveling back and forth between lovers, countries and centuries.
The arrangements were recorded in Buenos Aires and bear witness to the cooperation of some of the most interesting Argentine tango musicians of our time.

AnnA has shared festival-, concert- and milonga stages in France, the BeNeLux, Switzerland, France, Germany and Buenos Aires with the Orquestas Típicas Tango Masivo (BE), OTRA, TOC (NL) and Sabor a Tango (DE), the Berlin based Quinteto Obsesión Tango, Cuarteto Rotterdam and the Dutch Trio Tangata. She performed with the guitar ensembles Guitarras Porteñas (NL), El Barullo (ARG) and the musicians Leonardo Andersen, Julián Caeiro, Walther Castro, Victor Villena, Leo Vervelde, Claudio Constantini and Kay Sleking, amongst others.
She sang on stages such as the Kölner Philharmonie, the Admiralspalast in Berlin, de Doelen in Rotterdam, the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig as well as the Toulouse Tango Festival, the Holland Festival, the Festival für Neue Musik in Werdenberg (Switzerland) and the Tangofestival in Kortrijk (Belgium), just to name a few.
She studied Classical Singing (Bachelor of Music) and Tango Voice (Master of Music) at the Rotterdam Conservatory and won scholarships of the “Ministerium für Kultur, NRW” and the Dutch “Fonds voor de Podiumkunsten”.
